I bought this to replace the fretted version I bought last year.

I really like the sound that is produced by these instruments and so do most of the people who have heard me play it. It takes a while to get used to how the strings feel and move under the fingers but once the technique is sorted it's fine.

I had two problems with the first fretted u-bass in that the centre pin jack socked continuously came loose, caused by the socked being so tight on the jack plug that any movement of the cable and plug caused the inner thread on the socket to come loose. It can be tightened fairly easily but had to be done nearly every time I played it. Secondly, as a woman with slightly smaller hands, I found after a while that the pressure needed to hold the thicker strings down firmly between the closer than usual spaced frets caused my finger joints and tendons to become painful. This was the reason for buying the second, fretless u-bass which solved this problem almost immeadiately. Once you have got used to the size, weight and feel of this instrument, the sound you get is really good.

As a working musician I take it to most jam sessions and gigs, and am glad that I don't have to heave a heavy plank of wood around any more.

A good and more than a little useful addition to my tool kit.
