Part of the Bass Centre's British Bass Masters Series, the Live & Dangerous Bass celebrates one of the music world's coolest cats - legendary Thin Lizzy frontman, Phil Lynott. West Bromwich born, Dublin bred and proudly and passionately Irish, he was a loveable rogue, a charismatic rocker, a gifted songwriter and a unique performer who will forever be the foremost bassist from the British Isles that we most regret not having to the pleasure to meet.

Formed in Dublin in 1970, Thin Lizzy initially only enjoyed modest notoriety in Ireland and the UK, but by the end of the decade, it had become a household name the world over with the band's most celebrated line-up of Lynott, drummer Brian Downey, and guitarists Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson well and truly claiming their place in rock 'n' roll history with the release of three genuinely classic studio albums within the space of three years - "Jailbreak", "Johnny The Fox", "Bad Reputation" - as well as immortalising the sheer, visceral thrill of their amazing live shows with 1978's Tony Visconti produced "Live & Dangerous" LP. Reaching No. 2 in the UK charts (held off the top spot by the "Grease" soundtrack) and certified double platinum for selling over half a million copies by the following year, the LP continues to draw critical acclaim and, although debate still rages over how much of the recording was actually overdubbed in the studio, is often cited as a rival to The Who's "Live At Leeds" as one of the greatest live albums of all time.

Appropriating the album's title and re-creating the distinctive looks and sound of Phil's famous mid-'70s, mirror-plated, jet black beauty from the cover of the landmark double live document, this superb, premium quality instrument blends period accurate looks and classic tone with a modern, light weight construction and a super fast, satin finish neck.

  • New, light weight, balanced body contour

Limehouse Lizzy

Although the Bass Centre never had the pleasure of welcoming Phil Lynott through the doors of our Wapping showroom prior to his passing in 1986, we do enjoy some proximity to his enduring legend by virtue of our longstanding association with Limehouse Lizzy, the UK's most successful Thin Lizzy tribute act.

Founded in 1993 by supreme entertainer, lead singer, bassist, and Elites artist Wayne Ellis and guitar ace Greg Alcock, while both were employed at the Bass Centre's landmark Wapping superstore, Limehouse Lizzy (named after the region of East London adjacent to Wapping) have enjoyed a quarter century at the top of the tribute game, with a hard won international reputation for their fantastic, energetic live shows.

Excellent advice and service
Sunday, 26 April 2020  |

Iím a total novice and no previous experience of guitar playing. I was referred to the Bass Centre by a friend after carrying out extensive research. I left a message and within 30 minutes Barry returned my call, I explained to him my lack of knowledge. His advice was spot on, he told me exactly what I needed (and didnít need), explained the process and he and his admin team kept me updated until the bass arrived.

Excellent advice and service and would have no hesitation in recommend the Bass Centre.

Stunning Looks, Great Value
Friday, 23 August 2019  |

This is the first bass I have bought and I spent a considerable time researching it before buying it. The Lizzy bass is a fantastic looking guitar with its black body and neck and mirror finished pick guard. It was professionally set up before being couriered to me. It was manufactured in Korea and finished to a very high standard. It has a slim fast neck and is supplied with Elites nickel plated strings which are softer on the fingers than some I have tried. The bass weighs in at a thankfully light-ish 4.1 kilos. At this price I cannot fault it. It compares well with instruments costing twice the price. Oh, and did I mention its looks...?!

Great looker, great player.
Monday, 10 July 2017  |

Visited The Bass Centre today & put an order in for a new bass. Went for a Bass Collection Power Bass ("The Lizzy") with hi mass bridge.

My request of changing the neck for a Jive/Jazz one was met with a "no problem at all" response (and at no extra cost). Dealing with Barry Moorhouse was a pleasure.

Pick it up next Friday, can't wait. Great looker, great player.
