NEW Elites Danny Thompson Signature Series Double Bass Strings

Tuesday, 5 March 2013  |  Dave Good

Danny Thompson is quite simply a legend in modern music.

Widely recognised by music fans and fellow musicians as one of the World’s finest double bass players, Danny has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning six decades, in which he has lent his considerable skills to performances on record and in concert with an astonishingly diverse array of artists, including Josh White, Roy Orbison, Little Walter, Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Donovan, Ralph McTell, Sandy Denny, Marc Bolan, Kate Bush, David Sylvian, Talk Talk, Eric Bibb, Everything But The Girl, as well as jazz greats; Ronnie Scott, Tubby Hayes, Stan Tracey, John McLaughlin, Art Farmer, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Williams and Mark Murphy.

From his unique contributions to the archetypal folk-rock supergroup, Pentangle and to Alexis Korner’s revolutionary Blues Incorporated, through his successful and enduring collaborations with maverick troubadours John Martyn and Richard Thompson to his own wildly eclectic and dynamic solo work, Danny has strived to expand the rhythmic and melodic possibilities of the acoustic bass, drawing on his life experiences and disparate influences to produce music that is by turns sombre and melancholy, enchanting and uplifting, joyous and lyrical but always inspiring and always driven by his passion for creativity and for life... true music from the the heart.

Latest Elites Player... Mamas Gun New Boy Cameron Dawson

Friday, 1 March 2013  |  Dave Good

Cameron Dawson has plenty of reasons to be happy in 2013... the latest professional user to join the Elites Hall of Fame, he has also just snagged the bass gig with London-based band Mamas Gun.

Formed by singer Andy Platt (who contributed to the mega-selling debut album by Corinne Bailey-Rae) Mamas Gun may not be a household name in the UK but the band's combination of blue-eyed soul and edgy, brit-funk has made them huge stars in the Far East and earned them critical praise worldwide.

Cameron popped his gigging cherry with the soul/funk collective at a packed Jazz Café gig on February 24th.

As the video below proves, he's a player with a unique look and a fantastic groove...

Bill Wyman & The Rolling Stones

Monday, 26 November 2012  |  Dave Good

When Bill Wyman started rehearsing with the Rolling Stones in early 2012, expectation was high that he would be re-joining the group to celebrate their half century.

Unfortunately such hopes seemed to be dashed the legendary bassman declared... "I don't fly, so there's no way I'll go on any tour".

So, it was a wonderful surprise when Bill guested with the band on the first of their 50th Anniversary shows at London's O2 Arena on November 25th, helping them tear through the classics "Honky Tonk Women" and "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll"...

And of course, it was even better that Bill took his Bass Centre "Wyman" Bass with him!!

Bill Wyman & The Bass Centre Wyman Bass

Sunday, 3 June 2012  |  Dave Good

Bill Wyman stepped out last night with his trusty Bass Centre "Wyman" Bass, to hitch up with his old Rolling Stones bandmate Ronnie Wood, to entertain revellers at snooker ace Jimmy White's testimonial.

Celebrating the Whirlwind's 50th birthday, as well as his illustrious career, the all-day junket at London's Grosvenor Hotel included a slap-up dinner, a challenge match between Jimmy and Ronnie "The Rocket" O'Sullivan, tributes from a host of fellow snooker world champions as well as an amazing show from an all-star band featuring Ronnie Wood, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, drummer Andy Newmark, keyboard players Andy Wallace and Geriant Watkins and Simply Red mainman, Mick Hucknall.

Here's Bill with the "Wyman" Bass, joining Ronnie Wood, drummer Andy Newman and Mick Hucknall for a great version of the Valentine Brothers' classic "Money's Too Tight To Mention"...

Phil Spalding With His No. 1 Bass

Thursday, 1 March 2012  |  Dave Good

Phil Spalding, one of the UK's bass playing greats, is the latest musician to be smitten with the Bass Collection range.

Currently on tour with Simon Townshend (Pete's little brother!), Phil evidently never leaves home without his Bass Collection Power Bass - complete with sassy, mirrored scratch plate - loud, proud and centre stage... according to the man himself, the Bass Centre designed axe is now his "No. 1" instrument!!

Phil has been at the top of the bass playing game for many years, contributing his powerful, propulsive basslines to internationally successful recordings and tours with the likes of Toyah, Robbie Williams, Seal, Mick Jagger, Joe Cocker, Tina Turner, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and Roger Daltrey...

Known for his  'one takes',  Phil says, ‘I don’t have much patience for agonising over a bass part for a record… I always see a musical performance as a journey through the song, ebbing and flowing with the rest of the instruments and the vocals. For me, that’s the way to record something that’s going to have the dynamics and feel required to achieve truly great recordings – an awesome combination of rock and soul … hardcore in yer face bass!!!”
